Open Doors: Tour the Courthouse for America 250
Free courthouse tours on Wednesday, September 16 for schools and homeschoolers, and Saturday, September 19 for the general public. Both days 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As part of Ohio's celebration of America 250, Judge Linda R. Warner of the Meigs County Common Pleas Court is hosting an Open Doors event, part of the Ohio History Connection's "Open Doors" plan.
Wednesday, September 16, 2026 — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open to all local schools and homeschoolers.
Saturday, September 19, 2026 — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open to the general public.
Visitors will be given tours of the current courthouse, including remnants of the old jail, and will be able to virtually visit the oldest standing courthouse in Ohio, located in Chester, Ohio.
Visitors will learn about the third branch of government — the judiciary — and how it moved around Meigs County since the county was formed in 1819. On display will be photographs of prior judges, important historic legal documents representing cases through the history of Meigs County, and samples of coroner's inquest reports from the 1800s. Visitors will also discover how paper files have evolved through the years into today's digitized filing system.
