Transcript Requests

How to request an official transcript of a proceeding before the Meigs County Common Pleas Court.

What a transcript is

A transcript is the official written record of what was said during a hearing or trial. It is prepared by the court reporter from the record of the proceeding. Transcripts are most often needed for an appeal, but a party may request one for any legitimate purpose.

Transcripts are prepared by the court, not by the Clerk of Courts. Requests should be directed to the court office rather than filed with the Clerk.

How to request one

You may also send a written request by email or mail instead. Either way, include the following so your request can be processed without a follow-up:

  • The case name and case number exactly as they appear on your paperwork
  • The date of the hearing or trial you need transcribed
  • Which portion you need — the entire proceeding, or specific testimony or rulings
  • Whether the transcript is needed for an appeal, and the date any appellate deadline falls
  • Your name, mailing address, daytime phone number, and email address
  • Whether you are represented by an attorney, and that attorney's name

Cost and timing

Transcripts are charged on a per-page basis, and a deposit may be required before preparation begins. The cost of a transcript depends on the length of the proceeding and how quickly you need it, so the court will quote your specific request once it is received.

Preparation takes time. If your transcript is needed for an appeal, request it as early as possible and say so in your request — appellate deadlines are strict and are not extended because a transcript was ordered late.
